Do Wales’ party leaders care about safeguarding?

On 7 April, we wrote to all party leaders in Wales with five questions on safeguarding children, particularly girls, in our schools.

The questions were sent in response to reports about the increasing levels of sexual harassment, violence and bullying that children and young people are having to deal with. Sex in the Senedd: What the candidates said – or didn’t say.

UPDATED 5 MAY

Merched Cymru wanted to ask every candidate in the Senedd election a really simple question:

Do you support women’s sex-based rights as set out in the Equality Act 2010

Please answer yes or no. If no, please explain briefly why not.

Let’s start by saying that we do think this is a simple question that candidates should be able to answer. It’s the law. Do you agree with it or not?

Senedd Elections: What the candidates say

With the Senedd elections upcoming, we’ve been looking with some envy at Scotland and the Alba Party’s commitment to women’s rights:

ALBA believes women have the right to maintain their sex-based protections as set out in the Equality Act 2010. These include female only spaces such as changing rooms, hospital wards, sanitary and sleeping accommodation, refuges, hostels and prisons.
