Please expand and read the section below before you proceed to the form.

Merched Cymru is a grassroots group of women from across Wales who are working to protect and strengthen the sex-based rights of women and girls.

Our members include women from different age groups, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, different abilities, women of faith and those who have none. We are apolitical and have members from across the political spectrum.

Merched Cymru recognises and welcomes the diverse range of women in our communities and welcomes all who wish to become members. We strive to provide a friendly and supportive environment to all our members and are committed to creating a safe and confidential space for this to happen.

We ask all members to work on the basis of mutual respect, support and solidarity and work constructively across any disagreements.

By being a member women agree to the following:

  • To uphold the principles of Merched Cymru in protecting the sex-based rights of women and girls.
  • To keep the identities of other women in the group confidential.
  • Apart from public campaigns, articles and information on our social media etc, to keep the work of Merched Cymru, including content of meetings, confidential.
  • To provide a supportive environment to other women in the group and women in general.

It is imperative that members support one another as well as women in the community – locally, nationally and internationally. This means that members’ values and behaviours must adhere to principles of sisterly support and those of the Equality Act 2010. The following, therefore, will not be tolerated. This includes online behaviour as well as in person. This is not an exhaustive list.

  • Homophobia and biphobia.
  • Racism – especially to minoritised communities such as Jews and Gypsy travellers. This
also includes those of different ethnicities, cultures, religions and backgrounds.
  • Misogyny and/or sexism.
  • Ableism.
  • Ageism.

We are a Welsh organisation and support the use of both Welsh and English on an equal footing.

We stand by ALL women across the world, especially those in countries where there is conflict or where they are not afforded equal rights and opportunities. Supporting women means that:

  • We believe women.
  • We encourage women.
  • We listen to women.
  • We support women.

We thank every woman for supporting us and for supporting women’s sex-based rights.

All Merched Cymru members who are active in campaigning need to be aware about security within the group.

There are some activists who are taking serious risks with their jobs and future employment merely by being involved with Merched Cymru, whilst others may be dealing with complex family dynamics or friendships around trans issues. Whatever the reason we are always discrete and very careful with names, contact details and communication details to protect each other.

Unless you have specifically agreed for us to share details such as your email address with another member, it won’t be shared, and you won’t see other members’ details. This does make communication a bit more complicated to administer, but we think it’s essential.

If you are on FB we have a private group, where we can share info and ask for support, campaigning etc. If you are not on Facebook then we will send out e mails to update and ask for support.

All your information will be stored securely and password protected for executive members only to access when required.

Please remember: what we talk about stays with us in Merched Cymru unless or until we’ve agreed when, how and with whom to share it. Do not share information, or documents beyond this group. Talking without such care could jeopardise or undermine our work and make very serious trouble for some of our members and allies.

When you apply for membership with us, or during your membership tenure, we may collect and process certain personal data to evaluate your eligibility and manage your membership effectively.

This data includes but is not limited to your name, contact information, and any other details relevant to your membership application or continuation.

As per GDPR guidelines, we will retain your data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected. This includes the duration of your membership application process and throughout your membership period.

We do so to ensure seamless communication, provide member services, and comply with legal obligations.
